History lesson for the day

History is never antiquated, because humanity is always fundamentally the same. – Walter Rauschenbusch
We like to think that we've made great strides in life, technology and human relations.  What do you think it was like 45 years ago?  Did we have cool technology back then?  Did we have new ways to cook food?  Did we have ways to raise money?  Did we have political comics of a risky nature?  Did we have advertising?  Did we celebrate our history?  Did we have trends in fashion?  YES...and we still do today.  We're making history today too.  Isn't it fundamentally the same?  Are we hopeless...or do we hang on to history because it "works" for us?  Who knows...still fun to look back and see where we're still the same and how far we've come in history.

I have a box of newspapers that my mother hung on to, some papers from 1925 on to 1983.  I know I should just trash it, but each time I open it, I find something fun to look at.  Let's take a look from The Stoutonia, October 18, 1968 newsletter and see if you agree or not.  It was their Diamond Jubilee year, celebrating 75 years with the theme - "Yesterday's Heritage, Tomorrow's Future"....

Thanks for stopping by - enjoy the look back at history!  Hope you find an opportunity to create new history today!

Cover page - at that time "nearly 10,000 persons
have received degrees or diplomas"

The president concluded his message on the cover,
"I hope to meet many of you during the weekend,
but to all of you may I extend a personal
welcome.  Enjoy yourself"
Fashion for the Homecoming ladies -
Fairly conservative eh?  The skirts are all
the proper length...just right above the knees!

This political cartoon, is very risky -...we've come
along way from this.  It wouldn't even get
published in a school paper now.

You could find job ads back then too.  Remember
the Oscar Mayer wiener dog....not pictured
here, but made me think of it when I read the
company name.

Even back 45 years ago, this building was
a historical monument!

Yes, we still have bridal ads.  The dress is only $22.00.
Check out the Men's ad.  Pants and penny loafers.
Not much has changed....

Technology.  "Light, easy to carry!"
Sounds like an Ipod!

"The Kids Next Door" - kind a like the "Backstreet Boys"

.69 cent beef sandwich.  I loved this restaurant -
it was so cool that it had a "Football" top!

Still have Pizza delivery.  Everyone still
thinks their pizza is "the best"

Fund raising for the United Fund.  They were aiming
to get $4000.00 more that year.
