The fruit of hope

My favorite fruit is grapes.  Because with grapes, you always get another chance.  ‘Cause, you know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit.  But if you have a grape, no problem, just move on to the next.   ‘Grapes:  The Fruit of Hope.’ – Demetri Martin
Well isn't that an interesting perspective on fruit?   If you take a risk and hope for something beyond the grape, they can be more than just a fruit.  They can become something different with a little work.  Grapes - juice.  Grapes - wine.  Grapes - raisins.  I like the reference that you always get another chance.  Because there are so many grapes on a vine, you do get more than one chance to find that refreshing taste.  I like grapes, I don't know that they are my favorite fruit though.  They were always one of the favorites for the kids as they were growing up.  Maybe at their young age, they intuitively knew the hope in the bowl of grapes?  They are still optimistic and hope daily for new adventures and discoveries.  I admire that about them.

So what do you think about hope?  Hope by definition is expectation of something to happen (noun) or wanting something to be the case (verb).  Hope is possibility.  Hope is longing.  Hope is the trust that things will be the way we expect.  Hope helps you want to move forward.

There's something missing though.  While you may have expectations and wants for something, in order to get that something, you have to do something to make it really happen.  You have to pick up a grape and take a bite to see if it is really a great grape or a crappy grape.  With grapes, you do get another chance to get what you expected.  Is it the "another chance" that keeps the expectation going?

You have to take action to make any expectation or want come true.  Simple as that.  You might have to let somethings sit and dry out for a while.  You learn patience in the process.  You might have to crush some hopes to get the juice that makes something even better.  You learn acceptance in the process.  You might have to modify your approach to a situation in the hope the next alternative is even better.  You have to be willing to change your expectations to get something totally different.  You have to be okay to take another chance.

Yeah...I can see it, grapes are pretty cool.  People who hope for something and do the necessary somethings in order to get what they are hoping for are pretty cool too!  Go grab some grapes, hope for something, and take the steps to get it!

Enjoy all the opportunities!

Mix it up with other choices -
you might just get something
even better!
